UNDERSTANDING THE WORKSPACE

This is the ObiScanner management software. When you click the menu, you’ll see a variety of different tools. As you can see, the Workspace was designed to make organization of your patients’ files easy and accessible.

Now let’s see how this Workflow works in action.

Let’s make a new patient. Click Create in the top right and fill in the fields. You will need to fill in the patient’s family name, first name, and birthday if you’d like.

If you’re ready to scan the patient, you will need to go to the menu and select the face scan option.

Choose the scan mode. There are two options: base or advanced. Generally, we suggest you select the base scan option. The Base Scan works well for both Dentate and Edentulous patients, however it is important to note that when scanning an Edentulous patient that they have bite rims or a temporary prototype, or of course if they have a denture, they should be wearing their denture.

Select the “Create a new face scan” and type in the family name and first initial of the patient and what we’re doing, in this case, a shot of their natural smile.

Start the camera, and begin the scan.

SCANNING THE PATIENT

The software will prompt you if the patient is too close or far from the camera, as well as if they are not properly centered.

Now that the patient is in the correct position we want them to give a broad, natural smile to the camera.

Once these steps have been completed, start the scan.

The ObiScanner operator will need to guide the patient through the process, ensuring they move in sync with the scanning protocol.

When the scan is complete, stop the scan.

The software will then stitch together a 3D image and once the scan has been saved, it will appear in the Facial Scan section. Double click the thumbnail and you will be able to review the patient’s facial scan.

A successful scan will have little to no distortion, the exposure of the image will look even - the image isn’t too bright or two dark, and you will have a clear, 3D image of the patient. Pay particular attention to the mouth area.

If for whatever reason the scan does not look like this, it may be because the patient moved too quickly during the scanning protocol or the lighting wasn’t correctly set up. In either case, some of their facial landmarks were not adequately captured by the scanner. If this is the case, simply delete the scan and scan the patient again, making sure the appropriate adjustments have been made to help ensure a successful scan.

For the FI3LD workflow, you will need to fulfill two to three scans. The natural smile, the exaggerated smile, and in the event that the patient does not display a complete smile, you may need to use the Superimposition Tray. You will learn how to use the Superimposition Tray in the next lesson.

INTRA-ORAL SCAN

You will need to complete an intra-oral scan of the patient as well before you are ready to send your files to Allure Dental Studio. You can do this before or after taking the facial scan of your patient.

SENDING SCAN FILES TO ALLURE DENTAL STUDIO

Now that you have successfully scanned the patient, it’s time to send the case to Allure Dental Studio.

From your web browser, go to Allure Dental Studio and click “Send a Case.” Allure Dental Studio is a nationally recognized expert in Full Arch dentistry and is the only lab advanced enough in this country at this time that can fully support the FI3LD Digital workflow. They have built a comprehensive Digital RX, and it is important that you accurately fill it out to the best of your ability.

Accept the Terms and Conditions and submit the RX to Allure.

From here, you will be prompted to upload your files via the link, which will take you to HighTail. Here you can drag and drop your files from your desktop. You will need to compress your files into a zip file first, and then drag it into the upload area. Fill in you, the doctor’s, name and your email address. In the message, be sure to include the patient’s name and any other relevant data you would like Allure Dental Studio to know. Then select Upload.

You will know your files have been successfully uploaded and sent when you receive a confirmation email in your email inbox.
